This book is about their father Bennos escape from Nazi persecution before WWII. Benno and his brother Heinz go through frightening, thrilling and bitter sweet moments on Heinz and Benno successfully cross the border from Berlin to Holland. After being turned away once, they make it through a border into Nijmegen, Holland. All the boys have are ten marks, their birth certificates, two train tickets, and the clothes on their backs, they leave their suitcase full of memories from home behind.
